Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Program

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, the R.C.I.A. is the way those persons interested in the Roman Catholic Faith learn about the religion and join our parish as Roman Catholics. The Christian Process of R.C.I.A. traces its roots back to the earliest days of the Christian Church, when all members shared their faith with newcomers as a way of teaching them about the new Way ~ the Way of Jesus the Risen Lord.

Before the Rite was defined [nearly fifty years ago], those who wished to learn more about the Catholic religion and "convert" met with the parish priest for individual instruction. Now we share the privilege and responsibility of teaching and faith sharing. We hope that you will suggest this process to those who are searching for new meaning in their lives.

Perhaps they will find this meaning as part of the Catholic Church. The R.C.I.A. process is comprised of catechumens: those who have never been baptized and want to learn more about Catholicism; candidates: those who were baptized in another religion and now desire to be Catholics, and sponsors: Catholics who have offered to walk with the catechumens or candidates in this phase of their faith journey in the Lord through His Church.
